As summer begins to warm up this year, our home has been filled with energy. We love having seasonal activities that make the most of this wonderful weather and ensure our residents are thriving.
At Southfield Court, we are a quaint care home in Almondbury. With a community of fifty residents, we have created a home that truly feels like an extended family. We achieved this by having a holistic outlook on care.
We understand the importance of enriching and stimulating the lives of our residents alongside medical assistance. From four-legged friends to days of dress-up, we have had a busy start to the summer.
At Southfield Court, we are very lucky to have our own mascot dog, Loki. This sweet dog has stolen the hearts of everyone in the home: residents, family and staff alike. His visiting days are always a highlight and instantly transform the home into one of laughter and joy, and Loki is always sure to receive lots of cuddles and petting.
Not only is Loki a well-loved member of our family at Southfield, but he also plays an important role in our dementia ward. Animal therapy has been positively linked to dementia, helping to fight against a range of difficulties that come with this condition. Loki provides an unconditional and comforting connection with our residents, alongside reigniting those memories of childhood pets. Doing so becomes a powerful tool in fighting memory loss.

We have been blessed with wonderful summer weather for the last few weeks, which has not been wasted on our residents. We have been taking our activities to the garden to make the most of the beautiful sunshine.
With lighthearted ball games, our residents have been keeping active with a touch of nostalgia. Of course, summer is about relaxation, so we have had plenty of afternoons chatting in the garden with a refreshing drink.

For our residents who prefer quiet moments and relaxing activities, our self-care pamper sessions are always anticipated. Everyone deserves to feel pampered and cared for outside of their medical needs. These quiet moments of self-care help our residents to feel extra special and cared for, the perfect comforting activity for relaxation.
We hosted an extra special pamper day where our residents enjoyed soothing foot therapy and relaxing face massages, alongside having their nails painted and visiting the hairdresser. These simple activities help to keep our residents feeling their best and looking after their wellbeing.

As we all know too well, British summer weather does not always bring sun along with it. When we cannot take our activities outside for a day of ball games, we keep the fun going inside. This is where creativity really shines.
Our residents have been putting their artistic side to work, creating beautiful flower arrangements that brighten up our dining room tables. This hands-on hobby is a great way for residents to keep their creative and motor skills practised in a laid-back environment. After chatting around the table and getting in touch with their creative side, it’s wonderful to see the pride that each resident takes in their centrepiece.

Reminiscence therapy is incredibly important to us at Southfield Court. We love finding fun ways to keep nostalgia alive in our home, and our favourite way is through themed days. This month, we took a step back in time and became “All Things Royal”.
We shared items from a memory box, and our residents transformed into the Queen! Donning elegant hats and scarves, complete with a crochet afternoon tea, our residents transformed for the afternoon. We had so much fun taking a trip down memory lane.

Life at Southfield Court prioritises our residents’ entire health. Ensuring everyone is included and enjoying our activities takes care of their mental wellbeing. These activities also prioritise fighting against dementia development, alongside providing fun and comfort in their lives.
