Dementia Care

Dementia affects people in different ways. That’s why it’s important that dementia care meets the unique needs of each individual and supports them to continue to live a fulfilled life.

Dementia care allows specific needs to be met when nursing or residential care is not enough. Our highly trained staff understand the different types of dementia and the many symptoms that a sufferer can present. Nursing dementia care is also available for patients with more complex needs.

Our care has been designed around the needs of people with dementia. This may include difficulty locating specific areas or rooms. Often, residents with dementia need help with relationships, emotions and physical wellbeing in order to keep them safe and happy. Our staff are trained to offer the right support to them.

What is dementia?

Dementia is an umbrella term for loss of memory and other thinking abilities severe enough to interfere with daily life. It is not a single disease but is an overall term to describe a collection of symptoms. These symptoms impair independent function, behaviour, feelings and relationships. Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 60-80% of cases.

Signs of dementia can vary greatly. They can include problems with short-term memory, paying bills, remembering appointments and planning meals.

Dementia is caused by a variety of diseases that cause damage to brain cells. This damage interferes with the ability of brain cells to communicate with each other. This affects normal thinking, behaviour and feelings.
